Program Performance
Main Component 1: Development of QA arrangements within the region. Its is expected that the project will help establish strong, credible, QA arrangements which can: (i) provide assistance to development schemes in other countries within the region; (ii) assist countries that wish to establish QA processes, either for institutions, programs or specific sectors; and (iii) help establish mutual recognition agreements among QA agencies within the region
Main Component 2: Establishment of a regional information clearinghouse. This would help to create/provide: (i) a regional database on standards, criteria, QA materials and publications; (ii) a Spanish glossary for QA and links to other existing glossaries and definitions; (iii) translation services for materials used in other regions, and for Spanish language materials into English for dissemination purposes; (iv) regional studies on relevant issues (such as comparative studies on TE, nature and context of TE in the region, impact for transnational education in different countries, comparative national qualifications frameworks): and (v) regional information system, on accredited programs and institutions transnational offerings.
Main Component 3: Staff development and capacity building. This would improve the qualifications of the staff of national QA agencies, as well as that of TEI wording on self-assessment or other QA related matters, through staff exchanges, study visits and secondments,
Main Component 4: Training and development programs. In coordination with national and/or sub-regional training programs, the project would support region wide training and development programs on issues of common concern. Some of these issues are: (i) QA of distance and on-line education; (ii) QA of transnational education; (iii) Implications of trade agreements on quality assurance and on the development of TE; (iv) Regional mobility and transfer schemes; (v) The role of QA in mutual recognition (vi) Institutional management for quality; and (vii) Quality assurance for research.
Main Component 5: Training of external reviewers. Most LA countries have relatively small academic communities. To be able to share trained external evaluators would provide additional credibility to QA processes, would add experience to local reviewers and provide and international perspective of quality
